Albendazole 300 is a green colored oblonged gcored on one side bolus & it is a broad spectrum anthelmintic which is extremely active gainst most nematode and some cestodes wrorms including tape worms & adult liver fluke.
Albendazole 300 with it’s low solubility, limited amount of the given dose of Albendazole 300 is absorbed from the stomach and intestine. However, once the drug is absorbed peak plasma level can occur in 2-4hours.The plasma level is seldom greater than 1% of the dose administered because of it’s relatively low solubility. Albendazole 300 is slowly excreted.
MODE OF ACTION:
It is considered that Albendazole 300 acts on helminthes by inhibiting the fumerate system and has an influence in the uptake of glucose and can effect glycogen metabolism. This action is noticeable in that the intestinal cells of the parasite are unable to absorb nutrients so that the parasite is eventually starved of glycogen. Albendazole 300 because of it’s slower metabolism have a more prolonged effect the helminthes and thus increase the possibility of glycogen starvation.
Albendazole 300 is a broad spectrum anthelmintic effective in the removal and control of the following internal parasites:
Adult Liver Flukes, Heads and Segments of Tapeworms (Moniezia); Adult and 4th Stage Larvae of intestinal Worm (Cooperia spp.), Hook Worm (Bunostomum spp.), Bankrupt Worm (Trihostrongylus); Adult and 4th Stage Larvae of Lung Worms (Dictryocaulus).
