Ivertong Super
Composition
Each ml contains: Ivermectin 5 mg,Closantel 125 mg.
Description
It is an amber to brownish yellow clear liquid.
Pharmacology
Ivermectin is an endectocide with activity against a wide range of internal andexternal parasites. Ivermectin is a macrocyclic lactone and acts by inhibiting nerveimpulses. It binds selectively and with high affinity to glutamate-gated chloride ionchannels which occur in invertebrate nerve and muscle cells. This leads to an increase in the permeability of the cell membrane to chloride ions with hyperpolarization of the nerve or muscle cell, resulting in paralysis and death ofthe relevant parasites. Compounds of this class may also interact with otherligand-gated chloride channels, such as those gated by the neurotransmittergamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). The margin of safety for compounds of thisclass is attributable to the fact that mammals do not have glutamate-gated chloridechannels. The macrocyclic lactones have a low affinity for other mammalianligand-gated chloride channels and they do not readily cross the blood-brainbarrier.
Resistance to macrocyclic lactones has been reported in Teladorsagia andTrichostrongylus in sheep in a number of countries. Therefore the use of this medicinal product should be based on local (regional, farm) epidemiological information about susceptibility of parasites, local history of treatments andrecommendations on how to use the medicinal product under sustainableconditions to limit further selection for anthelmintic resistance.
P-glycoproteins (Pgps) have been frequently implicated in ivermectin resistanceand are a major cause of multi-drug resistance in protozoa and helminths.
Closantel is a member of the salicylanilide class of anthelmintics. Salicylanilidesare hydrogen (proton) ionophores (referred to as oxidative phosphorylaseuncouplers.)
The chemical structure of salicylanilides illustrate the possession of a detachableproton. This type of molecule is lipophilic and is known to shuttle protons acrossmembranes, in particular the inner mitochondrial membrane.
Closantel acts byuncoupling oxidative phosphorylation.Closantel is a parasiticide with flukicide activity and efficacy against certain otherhelminths and arthropods. Treatment with the veterinary medicinal product whenfluke are five weeks and greater has been shown to reduce subsequentreproductive capacity and egg shedding.
Indications
Ivertong Super is indicated for the treatment and control of mixed parasitic infections in cattle and sheep, including trematodes (liver flukes), gastrointestinal nematodes, lungworms, and arthropods (e.g., nasal bots, mange mites, lice). It is effective against adult and immature stages (e.g., L4 larvae, 8-week immature flukes) and demonstrates efficacy against benzimidazole-resistant strains of key parasites.

Dosage and administration
By subcutaneous injection only.
Cattle and Sheep : 1 ml/25 kg body weight.
If treatment is to be repeated, a minimum interval of 35 days, must be observed in order to avoid accumulation of residues.
To ensure administration of a correct dose, bodyweight should be determined as accurately as possible; Choose proper dosing device and check the accuracy.
The timing for treatment should be based on epidemiological factors and should becustomised for each individual farm. Professional veterinary advice should besought on appropriate dosing programmes and stock management to achieve adequate parasite control and reduce the likelihood of resistance developing.
Side effects
Transitory swelling has rarely been observed at the injection site and occasionally this swelling is accompanied by pain and discomfort. This swelling resolves completely within 14 days following treatment.
