Amotong 15
Composition
Each ml contains Amoxicillin trihydrate 150mg.
Appearance
It is a white suspension after shaking well.
It will become stratification after still stand.
Indications
In vitro amoxicillin is effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria which include: Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus species, Salmonella species, Staphylococci and Streptococci. Not effective against beta-lactamase producing organisms.
AMOTONG 15 Injection is suitable for the control of infections due to susceptible micro-organisms in cattle, sheep, pigs, dogs and cats where a single injection giving prolonged activity is required. It may also protect from secondary bacterial invasion due to sensitive organisms in cases where bacteria are not the initial cause of the disease. Indications include infections of diseases such as respiratory, digestive, urogenital, mastitis, and wound and post surgery infection.
Dosage and administration
Cattle, sheep and pigs: By intramuscular injection only.
Dogs and cats: By subcutaneous or intramuscular injection.
The recommended dosage rate is 15mg per kg bodyweight, repeatable if necessary after 48 hours. Massage the injection site. To ensure the correct dosage, bodyweight should be determined as accurately as possible to avoid underdosing.
A separate injection site should be used for each administration.
Animal Weight(kg) Dosage volume(ml)
Cattle 450kg 45.0ml
Sheep 65kg 6.5ml
Pigs 150kg 150ml
Dogs 20kg 2.0ml
Cats 5kg 0.5ml
Dose volume is equivalent to 1 ml per 10 kg bodyweight. If dose volume exceeds 20 ml, it should be divided and injected into two sites. As with other injectable preparations normal aseptic precautions should be observed. An appropriate graduated syringe must be used to allow accurate administration of the required dose volume. This is particularly important when injecting small volumes.
Adverse reaction
As with all penicillins, amoxicillin may cause hypersensitivity (allergy) and should not be used when an animal is known to be allergic to beta-lactams.
Occasional local reaction of a transient nature may occur at the site of injection.
Contra-indications
Not suitable for intravenous or intrathecal administration. Do not use in known cases of hypersensitivity to beta-lactam antibiotics.
Overdose
The safety of amoxicillin is typical of that of other penicillins in that intrinsic toxicity is very low, except in animals with specific allergy to the Beta-lactams, and this seems rare. Tolerance studies at twice the normal recommended dose in the named target species have been carried out with no adverse effects being observed. Treatment is symptomatic.
